Bitcoin price sinks below US$20K, erases weekly progress
Bitcoins price fell below US$20,000 Tuesday morning in Asia, erasing last weeks gains, as both crypto and traditional markets await the latest U.S. inflation data due on Wednesday.
- According to CoinMarketCap, the world's largest cryptocurrency is trading down 4.5% at $19,989 over the past 24 hours.
- Ethereum is down 6% over the same period, trading at $1,096 at press time.
- All other cryptos in the top 10 of CoinMarketCaps were losing out, with Solana and Dogecoin falling at least 8% to trade at US$33.36 and US$0.06 respectively.
- June Consumer Price Index (CPI) - US A measure of inflation - can reveal whether the U.S. The Federal Reserve's aggressive approach to controlling inflation has had an impact and provides an indication of how well the central bank may adjust interest rates.
- Traditional markets also declined, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.5%, the S&P 500 index down 1.15% on the day, while the NASDAQ Composite index ended Monday down 2.3%.
