Minecraft Bans NFTs and Blockchain Integrations
Minecraft has announced that it will ban the use of NFTs and blockchain technology on its servers. The highly popular sandbox game also seeks to prevent the creation of NFT projects based on its assets. Mojang Goes It Alone Mojang, the developer behind the hit video game Minecraft, has little interest in allowing its assets to operate in conjunction with independent NFT projects.
Blockchain technology will be prohibited on independent game servers (run by fans and creators) that use any aspect of Minecraft imagery to create the NFT project. The notice issued by Minecraft claimed that the decision was made based on ensuring players "have a safe and inclusive experience".
Initial NFT and Web3 Integration Last year Minecraft introduced NFTs into the game, allowing players to collect digital assets in-game, giving them access to special quests and other benefits. The NFT was to be powered by a project called Enjin (ENJ), which allowed digital assets to be stored on the blockchain.
Players were then required to scan a QR code that automatically transferred the NFTs to their Enjin. The wallet can then be linked to the cross-platform gaming network MyMetaVerse. Then, in March 2022, the game decided to make the move to Web3.
'NFT Worlds' was set to be a blockchain layer added to the Ethereum sidechain offering polygon-based overlays and gas-free transactions, as well as third-party Minecraft servers. The announcement received an overwhelmingly positive response on social media at the time.
